One of the most fascinating aspects of InterContinental Danang is where it’s situated, the nature reserve of Son Tra Peninsula. Also known as Monkey Mountain, the peninsula signals the end of the incredible Annamite mountain range, where the jungle meets the sea in one of Vietnam’s last coastal rainforests. Renowned for its unique plant and animal life, it is home to some of the rarest animals on the planet. The mythical mountains still hold many secrets and new species are still being discovered today, so let us talk you through some of the most interesting experiences you can join! One of the most sought-after experiences is glimpsing a family of red-shanked douc langurs, one of the most beautiful yet endangered species of monkey in the world. The resort is actively involved in the conservation of these charming langurs, noted as the world’s most colourful primate. Our resort environmentalists are experts in finding our local families.

We also can’t leave out our other residents, the Macaque monkeys. Spend time watching the quirky behaviours of our native family! These primates are highly sociable and spend their days grooming, playing and quarreling with each other. It can be very amusing to watch them get up to mischief with each other. As part of our commitment to protect the environment and the macaques — no feeding please!

Of course, being in a rainforest, you will be surrounded by songs, so we advise you to go bird-watching at our spa lagoon. Our resort is a haven for wildlife, including many species of waterfowl. Come and see how they behave and feed on the abundant fish in the lagoon, and look out for the beautiful kingfishers as they dart past you!

Stay quiet and try to spot the beautiful sunbirds. These nectar-feeding birds are vital to the local ecosystem as they pollinate the flowers. See their flash of colour as they skip from bloom to bloom. Often mistaken as butterflies, these are some of the smallest birds in Vietnam, yet they have one of the loudest songs! Keep your eyes open, and follow the song to see the burst of colour singing from the tree tops.

A favourite for our nectar-drinking birds, head out among our various flower beds and spot some of the many local species of butterfly. The species change with the season and they come in all shapes and sizes, look out for our largest, the Great Mormon!

Our private bay is a mixture between white sand and coral reefs and so we have a diversity of tropical fish that you can find sheltering within our bay. Go snorkeling to discover the vibrant marine life beneath the waves, and see how many species of fish you can spot!

Deep down the jungle road, join an invigorating trek to the grandfather of Da Nang, an 800-year-old banyan tree. You’ll discover plenty of natural wonders along the way before reaching this awe-inspiring ancient tree, which boasts enormous aerial roots from the canopy above.

Take a taxi to the Marble Mountains, a cluster of five limestone hills just a short drive from Danang. Head deep inside these sacred mountains through various cave systems; small staircases twist and turn through tunnels and carved rock walls. The peaks provide excellent opportunities for panoramic photos of amazing views – this is a natural wonder rich with history and not to be missed!
