Quan, can you tell us a bit about yourself and why the place you work is so special?

Hello, I am Quan, the warden of nature at our resort. I take care of our natural surroundings and help introduce them to the world. Son Tra Peninsula is a part of the vast and beautiful Annamite Mountains. This place is special because we get to observe the red-shanked douc langur, which is a very colourful and rare monkey. But it’s not just about these langurs. Son Tra is a thriving rainforest filled with a variety of animals and plants. It’s a crucial area for biodiversity, making it an excellent spot for ecological research and environmental education. I love showing guests how diverse and vibrant nature here can be.

Could you share more about the red-shanked douc langurs? They seem quite special.

Yes everyone loves to learn more about our doucs! The red-shanked douc langurs are among the most charismatic creatures here. Known as the ‘costumed monkey’ for their striking appearance, they are a symbol of the forest’s mystical and magical atmosphere. Observing them in their natural habitat, moving gracefully among the treetops, really emphasizes the unique biodiversity of Son Tra. They’re not just beautiful; they’re a vital part of the ecosystem, acting as seed dispersers for the forest. Their presence is a testament to the health of this habitat, making Son Tra a critical area for conservation and a fascinating subject for those interested in the wonders of nature.

Guests have been curious about the ‘monkey bridges’ around the resort. Could you explain what these are?

Oh, the monkey bridges! They’re quite a fascinating aspect of our conservation efforts. These bridges are aerial pathways that help the douc langurs and other tree-living animals avoid descending to the forest floor, which many of them don’t like! By using these bridges, they can safely find food, connect with other families, and maintain a healthy population. It’s all about creating an environment where they can thrive without human interference.

How can our guests get involved and experience these natural features?

We have some great activities for our guests. Our ‘Wildlife Expedition’ is a favourite. Guests can join me to explore the nature near our resort and hopefully see the red-shanked douc langur with their own eyes. This tour is guided by me or another expert, and it lasts about 40 minutes to an hour. When it rains, we have ‘Green Connection,’ a talk show where I share stories about our local wildlife and plants. There’s also a gallery room where guests can see displays about what we talk about.

Are there any new activities should guests look forward to in the future?

There’s a lot coming up! Soon, we’ll start our ‘Botanical Garden Ecotour.’ Guests can explore our organic gardens, learn about how we grow items organically, and even taste some items from our gardens. We are also preparing ‘Vitamin N,’ a fun activity for kids in the afternoon where they can play outside and learn about nature through games. And for those who love hiking, we’re planning two new trails, one to an 800-year-old banyan tree and another to Bàn Cờ Peak, in partnership with a local nature tour company. These will be exciting and unforgettable experiences allowing our guests to explore the whole peninsula!
