InterContinental Danang Launches Exciting New Nature Experiences

31 March 2026 (Danang, Vietnam): InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort is not just another five-star beachfront retreat; it is an environmental sanctuary, a haven of conservation, and a proud guardian of the wildlife that thrives in the lush jungles of the Son Tra Peninsula. This secluded corner of Central Vietnam is home to approximately 2,000 critically-endangered red-shanked douc langurs, which thrive alongside 1,000 species of plants, 100 types of birds, diverse butterflies, mammals and reptiles, which makes it an enchanting destination for explorers who want to escape their busy urban lives and reconnect with the natural world. 

Now, InterContinental Danang has introduced four new educational activities that let travellers discover the region’s rich yet delicate environment. Curated by Mr Quan, the resident naturalist, and complementing the resort’s well-loved Nature Expedition – a conservation-led, monkey-sighting tour in a buggy –  these new expert-led excursions add depth to the resort’s eco-experiences and will inspire guests of all ages. 

Resort Ecowalk Highlights Native Flora & Fauna  

Throughout every stay at InterContinental Danang, guests encounter a wonderful array of exotic wildlife and blooming plants that are a reminder of the resort’s pristine surroundings. To get a better understanding of the local ecology, a resort guide will lead travellers on an Ecowalk – a 1km journey into the rainforest that highlights species that visitors may have otherwise overlooked, including many of the colourful butterflies and beautiful birds that call the area home. 

The Ecowalk is available five days a week (once per day) and is complimentary to in-house guests. 

Jungle Hike to an 800-Year-Old Banyan Tree  

Deep within the jungle, an awe-inspiring sight awaits: a majestic 800-year-old banyan tree which has witnessed life on the Son Tra Peninsula since the time of the Tran dynasty. With its sprawling network of roots and branches, this magnificent “tree of life” is said to symbolise strength, wisdom and longevity. Led by a naturalist, guests will hike along a jungle path, learn about the flora and fauna, and perhaps spot monkeys swinging from the canopy. But the star of the show is the banyan tree, and it doesn’t disappoint – this off-the-beaten-track giant is truly magnificent.  

This easy-to-moderately strenuous four-hour hike is available for a fee and operated by Next Continent, a trusted nature tour operator and the resort’s partner. Hikes commence in the early mornings and mid-afternoons. 

Son Tra Wildlife Expedition to the peak of “Monkey Mountain” 

Hit the road for a journey to the top of Son Tra Mountain – affectionately known as Monkey Mountain – surrounded by birdsong and primate calls. Led by an experienced guide, the Son Tra Wildlife Expedition is a half-day tour of the diverse animal and plant species that can be found in this vibrant nature reserve. Guests will learn about the ecosystem, including birds, butterflies, trees and flowers, including herbs used in traditional medicine. Keep a lookout for rare red-shanked douc langurs en route, and at the summit, a rewarding view of the ocean and Danang city. 

Operated by Next Continent, these four-hour driving expeditions are available for a fee, with departures from InterContinental Danang in the early morning or afternoon. 

Children’s Beach Exploration & Gardening Activities  

Children have endless opportunities to learn about wildlife in fun, interactive ways at the Planet Trekkers kids club. The Beach & Garden experience invites young guests to see what’s growing in the resort’s organic garden and discover local pollinating insects, while also helping to plant small herbs or vegetables in pots. Then, heading down to the shore, they’ll be able to uncover marine life that thrives on the resort’s private beach, such as clams, cockles and hermit crabs, whilst also learning about the importance of marine conservation with a safe beach cleaning session. 

The kids’ activities are free-of-charge for in-house guests and are suitable for children aged 4 to 12 years old. 

These initiatives reaffirm InterContinental Danang’s deep commitment to conservation and education. The resort recently launched a major tree-planting project, in partnership with the local government, to “re-green” Danang with thousands of native trees. It has also been awarded Green Globe Certification for its long-term efforts to operate sustainably and protect the environment.
